| The Process |

 |
| Overview: |
I do commission work based on my existing style, subject matter and general color palette. Commissions undertaken can be for a variation on an existing painting or subject, usually for a change in size where I retain all creative control. I also work with photographs that you have taken, especially on
portraits. I do not create paintings utilizing copyrighted materials such as professional photographers portrait photos. Commissions are only taken for paintings at least 16 x 20 inches. |
| Price List: |
I maintain a price list outlining the cost based on price per square inch of canvas size and shipping charges. The list represents consistent pricing for all my artwork and eliminates pricing based on the emotional aspects of a painting. It also assists in valuation of the artwork, as
future prices increase, so does the value of your commissioned artwork. |
|
Commission based on existing painting: |
If the painting will be based on an existing painting in my collection, just email me with the title of the painting and the size of which you are interested. |
| Commission based on your photo: |
If the painting will be based on your photograph you will need to send a .jpg file of the subject and the size canvas you want to commission. Photographs can also be mailed in the regular mail if you don't have a .jpg file. |
| Review of Subject Matter: |
After reviewing the .jpg file or your ideas, I will let you know if the subject and size would actually be appropriate for adaptation into an artwork. This would include discussion of elements that should be eliminated from the photo to give the best result. |
| Specifications: |
I will send you a email outlining the commission specifications which include size, price, and timeframe to complete your work. |
| Invoicing: |
After we have both agreed on the commission specifications, I will email you a invoice based on the specifications. |
| Initial Deposit Payment: |
I require an initial non-refundable deposit which is 25% of the commission price but does not include the shipping/handling fee. The shipping/handling fee is added to your final invoice. I prefer payments made through PayPal, however I will accept money orders or cashier's check via regular
mail. |
| Time Frame: |
I will begin on your artwork after I receive your deposit. With everyone's busy schedule, I factor in time to receive feedback from you. Painting is my full-time job, so I paint almost daily. However, communication takes time. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for your painting to be completed.
|
| Steps To Complete Your Commissioned Work: |
I will send you updates on the progress of your painting as I complete each of the steps outlined below. These updates include photos of the work in progress whenever appropriate: |
| I will begin the actual outline drawing and do a light color wash. This will define all the areas with what colors will be used. I will mainly define the overall shapes and shadows, etc. |
| This is the longest step, but you will see an incredible difference in the overall look of the painting from the wash-in stage. I will begin defining the details. |
| Refine the details and add final highlights. Your painting is ready for you to give final approval before I varnish. |
| After I receive your final approval, I will give it two to three coats of varnish. The painting will need to dry for 2 to 3 days before it is shipped. |
| I will send you a final invoice. |
| Once I receive and have processed you final payment, I ship the artwork to you. |
| Final Payment: |
Upon completion of your artwork, I will send you an invoice for final payment as agreed upon. Payments must be received within 10 days. I prefer payments made through PayPal, however I will accept money orders or cashier's check via regular mail. |
| Shipment: |
After I receive your final payment, I will prepare your item for shipment. Shipments for PayPal purchases are shipped within 3 days of confirmation of payment. Shipments for money order or cashier's check will be delay until the payment has cleared the bank (generally 7-10 days).
I ship the paintings FedEx Ground (within the US) in polystyrene forms and sturdy boxes. |
| Guarantee: |
Communication is the key to producing an artwork that you will want to hang in your home or office. The process of creating your piece of artwork is interactive. I want you to be happy with your painting. I welcome your feedback throughout the process. If for any reason during the process of
creating your painting you become dissatisfied you may end the contract and I will refund your initial deposit. However, I reserve the right to finish the artwork and sell the work at auction. After receiving your painting, you have 3 days to view it in your home. If you are unhappy with the painting, you may return it within 10 days
to receive a full refund minus shipping and handling fees. |
